Everybody is asking what they can expect from the Fak’ugesi Festival in 2016. And while we don’t have all the details just yet (and we would like to get it to you in good form) we can start giving you little hints of what is coming your way.
It’s the year 2016, the year the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival electrifies the energetic techno-sphere of Johannesburg to seize technology and creativity by Africans for Africa.
We call it the AFRO TECH RIOT and this year we amp up radical new African visions of community, spirituality and the feminine. Lets play, make, shift, and share through seminars, talks, exhibitions, game arcades, workshops, performances, innovation riots, installations, tech demos, pitches, parties and future sounds.
Raise your bandwidth and claim your territory in the digital innovation movement by Africans for Africa, #OwnYourInnovation #AfroTechRiot
Dates this year are 19th Aug to 3rd September and we will be fully located in the Tshimologong / Tech in Braam Hub on Juta Steet in Braamfontein.
This year you can expect all our regular favorites: Market Hack (27th Aug with ConnectZA), the Fak’ugesi Residency (with Pro Helvetia), A MAZE Johannesburg (31st – 3rd Sept) along with some really exiting new projects like: an opening party that will light you and the city up!; the Geekulcha Maker Library Pop Up at which you can learn everything from 3D printing to space walking; a “future sounds” project that brings South African musicians and technology innovation together for some amazing performance outcome (with Goethe Johannesburg); a Smart City Day, celebrating how the City of Johannesburg is changing our lives; a talks program that interrogates African knowledge systems in technology and much much more.
Keep an eye on the site for more and expect a full launch of event by the end of June!
