Immersive Africa

The programme presents fulldome immersions, extended-reality works, and spatial sound environments developed by creatives from across the continent. Works include both originals conceived specifically for the Dome's architecture and adaptations that find new form inside it. Each selection rests on a single principle: by Africans, for Africans, and through an African lens. Global best practice and global practitioners are incorporated and showcased.

The Wits Anglo American Digital Dome uses an 8K projection system, making it the most technically advanced public storytelling infrastructure on the African continent.
The expo is where work is encountered: displayed and engaged with at the viewer's own pace. The showcase is a structured programme in which work is experienced sequentially, curated, timed, and fully immersive. Some Immersive Africa works sit in one category; others bridge both. The programme will indicate which format applies.
Commissioning and selection follows a curated process. Both original works and adaptations of existing work are considered. Proposals from African creatives working in fulldome, XR, and spatial sound are welcomed through the Get Involved section.
