JOIN THE INTERNET YAMI-ICHI @ FAK’UGESI 2019
Story Posted: 2 August 2019
From meme-cookies, gifs and bracelets made of hard drive cables, to 3-D prints of your bestie and scratch cards that promise a prize of 25,000 Twitter followers; such treasures can be found at Internet Yami-Ichi’s, humorous, quirky flea markets for Internet-related things.
This is a market in which you can buy and sell in real life, anything that links to an obsession and love for internet and digital culture. A hard drive of gifs you have been working on, bits of code, an application, photoshopped pictures of cats in limpopo, circuit boards that flash “your mama”, personal data in USB drives, meme-cookies, glitched embroidery on clothes, spam mail, computer generated cocktails, and many other unexpected and internet related things.

WHAT IS INTERNET YAMI-ICHI?
The Internet Yami-Ichi, from the Japanese ⛩ “Internet Black Market”, but “addiction”, is a flea market where people consumed by the Internet can share and buy Internet-related things in real life.
In this weird market, you can browse through the booths and find the amazing and the useless—in an ironic and humorous atmosphere reminiscent of the early Internet era. The Internet Yami-Ichi was created by the art collective IDPW, “a secret society on the Internet that goes back more than 100 years,” and took place for the first time in Tokyo , in 2012. Since then many editions have been organized in cities across the world.
