JOBURG SMART CITY DAY
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Joburg Smart City Day is a day at Fak’ugesi Festival that celebrates the developments and focuses of Joburg City in the development of innovative local technologies, ICT skills and capacity.
The following events will be take place throughout the day on 20 August at the Tshimologong Precinct at 47 Juta Street in Braamfontein.
Hack Jozi Funders Pitching Session, 10 am to 12 pm
The top 10 finalist from the 2016 Hack Jozi challenge given an opportunity to further pitch their ideas and products to a larger community of investors. The investors development pitch is a platform for the top 10 to take the opportunity to develop their products.
Each pitch gets 10 min (5 min pitch and 5 min Q&A). Investors include:

C.O.J.E.D.I Meet and Greet, 12 pm to 1:00 pm
The top 100 COJEDI interns and their plus ones will get an opportunity to meet with the Mayor of the City, Head of CoJ Broadband and Partners of the programme where they will engage and network with Executives that influence the ICT community.
Top 20 awards and C.O.J.E.D.I journey session, 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm
The programme will announce the top 20 from the first and second co-hort and award them their “boarding passes” to the experiential learning and international experience. Right after awarding the interns, 5 interns will depict their journey in their programme highlighting how the programme has impacted their lives and the lives around them.
Workshops and Exhibitions:
MLN & Geekculcha: 3D Age Gaming, 10am – 1:30 pm
Get hands-on with 3D scanning and 3D gaming. You can build your own games, print your characters and create animations, working with Intel RealSense 3D cameras, 3D Printers, Holograms and Animation. This workshop is in extension of the Maker Library Network and Geekulcha [internal link] project @ Fak’ugesi
School Gaming Workshop and Exhibition, 10 am to 2 pm
The school Gaming completion to showcase the top 5 games. All games to be interactive and allow festival goers to play with the games that has been created by the high school children.
The Schools Workshop was an opportunity for grade 11 and grade 12 students from several schools in Johannesburg to get to know a bit about what goes into the production of video games.
The workshop guided the students through the process of coding a simple ‘platformer’ style game and they were also introduced to the process of creating a customised controller to play games with. Further to that the students were introduced to concepts such as effective game design and prototype iteration.
The workshop, led by the Wits Digital Arts Division was such a success that the Fak’ugesi Festival has inspired the return of a one day workshop on the Smart City’s Day. The one day workshop will allow for high school students to stretch their imagination and get their hands dirty by building their own game controllers and getting to test them on an actual game.
C.O.J.E.D.I Registration Booth and Exhibition, 10 am to 2 pm
COJEDI to have an information booth where all interested festival goers can find out more about the programme and also register on site. The exhibition will allow 5 interns that have developed products or business ideas to showcase their idea/ business at the festival.
Smart City Chill Zone
The chill Zone will be an area for guests to “chill”. The zone to have the following features:
Virtual reality showcase, CoJ Pod: Pod to have information on Smart City development, Virtual Reality Dome, Coffee and lunch station.
