Animation Master Sessions

AnimationSA in proud association with the Fakugesi African Digital Innovation Festival brings you a one-day master session focusing on various relevant topics critical for the development of the animation industry.

The day will include: A discussion from SABC discussing Producer Terms of Trade, Digital Delivery System, Digital Music Tracking Systems and Commissioning Protocols. Train the Trainer will focus on formalising your skills as a trainer – what every trainer needs to know about training others.  Leading with many years experience talking about producing world class animation while keeping the lights on.  The program ends with two amazing Kenyan guests speaking about the Kenyan animation industry, followed by cocktails and networking.

AnimationSA made an open call for Short Animations (2D & 3D), Motion Graphics & Title Sequences. This will be a screening of the top selection and an announcement t of winners, with prizes sponsored by CAPASSO and the Gauteng Film Commission.

Facilitator & Speaker Bios:

AnimationSA is driven by a vision to nurture a vibrant, sustainable and transformed Animation Industry in South Africa, one that has the capacity to offer a diverse range of content and other ancillary services that stand out as unique and globally competitive. Founded in 2006, Animation South Africa (A.S.A) has made great strides, contributing to the development of South African animation, VR and VFX (Visual Effects).

Nirvana Singh – Industry Development, South African Broadcasting Corporation. As Head of SABC Industry Development, Nirvana Singh has played a role in multiple areas in the business of broadcasting for the SABC. Formerly Senior Commissioning Editor, Drama at the SABC Content Hub, Commissioning Editor at Mzansi Magic and MNET as well as Head of Training and Development at Kwa-Zulu Natal Film Commission, her knowledge and experience brings a wealth of “know how” to enrich her new role as Industry Development Manage.   Her vision is to build a sustainable television industry providing support of the emerging producer sector that is diverse in creativity and will ultimately create quality content for Public Broadcasting. Nirvana Singh is also an award winning Independent producer and has produced multiple documentaries that have won South African and International Awards.

Naddya Adhiambo Oluoch-Olunya is an Animator and Illustrator driven by the need to understand, and represent girls and women through her work. For the past 9 years, she has been creating content for children, specializing in comics for Social and Behavior Change Communication in Nairobi, Kenya. She began her practice as a comic illustrator with, a 2 time International Digital Emmy® winning multimedia project, which harnesses the power of comics, radio and social
media engagement to host a conversation with Kenyan Youth about their world, their place in it, and practical ways to make it better.
After, She joined ZanaAfrica, a social enterprise dedicated to developing safe spaces, sexual and reproductive health platforms and menstrual healthcare products for girls and women. As Supervising Illustrator, she led the creation of illustrated content for Nia Teen Magazine, a publication and safe space for girls to have a candid, celebratory and compassionate conversation about themselves.

She left her post at ZanaAfrica in May and has since founded Sunflower Pictures, an animation studio committed to producing fresh and nourishing stories. The Studio’s flagship project; ‘Uzi’ won the CICLIC Prize at Animation du Monde at the 2019 Annecy International Animation Festival, and it’s currently on it’s production journey.


Natalie Delport is the MD of Combined Skills Group, a training consultancy, and also the founder and CEO of FindaTrainer™ – a global online platform offering trainer & training services across all industries and subjects. Natalie is an accredited Facilitator, Assessor, Moderator, Assessment Designer, Coach and Mentor. She has over 30 years work experience across various sectors. She has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from UCT specialising in Organisational Development. She also has a Higher Diploma in Business Management, a Certificate in Entertainment Law, and Certificates in Digital Media Management & Broadcast Management. Natalie has a wealth of knowledge in the education and management sectors and has worked her way up from starting out as a receptionist to the most senior positions that she now holds. Natalie’s passion is to educate others – and she does this successfully by creating a culture of training wherever she serves.


Vanessa Sindin is an award winning producer of both live action and animated films with over 19 years of filmmaking experience. She is currently based at Triggerfish Animation Studios in Cape Town and is producing a slate of projects (TV and Film) now in development. Together with this studio Vanessa has co-produced Africa’s two most successful animated feature films to date “Adventures in Zambezia” and “Khumba”. She has played a critical role in developing key procedures and structures for this pioneering studio and their productions. As an ambitious and passionate producer, Vanessa is constantly looking to break new ground for Africa’s animation industry. Her current projects include several ‘firsts’ such as partnering with international investors to produce an authentic African TV series, as well as developing an African animated musical!


Isabelle Rorke is the sole owner and CEO of Enlightened Poppy Network Pty Ltd (EPN), an Executive Producing and consultancy firm based in Joburg, South Africa. EPN is an Impact Innovation consultancy in the ICT sector with a specialist focus on Human Capital Innovation. The company strategy relies on two pillars; Differentiation and Value Innovation – looking at various strategic approaches to project, company and industry innovation as well as animation development and production. As such Isabelle is a volunteer on the AnimationSA (ASA) industry Board heading up the Social Impact and Human Capital Innovation unit, designing a cradle to build skills development and training strategy. As a volunteer fundraiser, Isabelle recently secured a sizable amount of funding for ASA. Isabelle Spent 10 years co-owning and running Anamazing Workshop, creating one of the fastest-growing, highly innovative animation companies in Africa.
